Florida shops for window valences, cabinet work

I am wanting to have some interior detail work done to finish up a couple of projects, namely:

  • Replaced cockpit curtains with MCD cockpit shades - now I want someone to build some valances for a more finished/factory look.
  • Upgraded both TVs to HDTV and need a bit of cabinet trim work around the new TVs.

I was not able to find any posts in here about "recent" experience with shops in FL, especially regarding similar type projects. Here is what I have garnered going back in the archive:

  • Classic Coach Works (Lakeland, FL) - seems to be some negative experiences.
  • Alliance Coach (Wildwood, FL) - seem to have good reviews, but not sure if cabinet work is their specialty.
  • Lazy Days (Tampa, FL) - some good reviews but not sure interior work is their speciality.

I'm interested in hearing about your recent experience with these or others, specifically regarding cabinet mods, window treatments.

Hmmm. Never thought of a mobile repair guy as being able to fabricate high quality custom upholstered window valences and other such cabinetry out of the back of a van.

And carpenters don't? They bid the job and bring the materials just like any tradesman would.

BTW: Most of the reputable Mobile Repair Service's have their own RV repair shop that it has been my experience the wait to get in for service speaks for itself. They are well established and offer mobile repair along with in house service. They are not all fly by night back yard mechanics/repair. In fact I have not in 5 years ever called on one that was. Funny most of them worked in dealerships and and left because they couldn't deal with what the dealerships wanted them to do and how fast to do it irregardless of quality.

I've had high end alterations and additions put in 2 of my coaches by RV Mobile Repair shops.

Just saying most are missing out on tapping into a service that is convenient, IMHO more experienced and more competent than a worker in an RV dealership that punches out at 5:00 and could care less if your RV is finished or not and has no vested interest in doing so.

But if it rocks your boat to impress, pull up to a big RV Dealership, and drop your coach off so be it. I just thought I'd share what I had found out being on the road full time. :C

I would go to Alliance Coach in Wildwood FL. They have an RV park on site that's $20 per night. Excellent reviews. Not sure about prices. Ask for Josh.

Thanks. Actually I emailed them earlier today and they were quick to get back to me. The adjoining rv park currently charges $10 nightly.

My hesitation with them is that they don't have any photos of similar projects. They say they are in the works.
  • I NEVER go to a dealership for ANY work on my coach.

Call a RV Mobile Repair guy. Their rates are MUCH LOWER than a dealership that has mediocre at best service techs in regards to work inside an RV. Mobile repair shops have seen it all and have repaired it all and carry everything needed on board. And if they do need a part they go and get it right then and there or at the lastest the next morning.....try that a dealership won't happen! W

    AND

They come to you as you sit back having a cold one AND can be right there to tell them exactly what you want done and if they have a better way of doing it you are right there to give them the go ahead.
IMHO be careful about hiring carpenters for cabinetry work. They really don't know all about what is behind walls, the strength of RV walls, where 12 volt wires might be running, etc etc. in an RV vs what they are used to working on a stick built.

Since I discovered Mobil RV Repair I just can't say enough good things about them. Call a CG you like and are familiar with and ask who they use for Mobile RV repair. You 'will' get the best one around by referral. Good Luck

Why go to an RV shop for cabinet mods - they'll just subcontract it and charge you a bunch extra.

Find a good cabinet man, and look at the work he does - sill get a better job and less money, I'd bet.

You have a good point, and indeed several years ago when I had a custom desk built where one of the sofas used to be, I went to a cabinet guy.

In this case the more substantial job is the valences which will include some upholstery work to match the other valances in the rig, and not something most cabinet shops would have experience in. Nor would they have experience in the best way to build RV window valences.

So, back to my original request...
