I had a similar experience with a car I bought that had sat for a few years. I ended up having to pull the fuel tank and clean all the corrosion out and replace all the fuel lines, filter, pump, etc.
Like yours, it worked fine for a while till enough sloshing around in the tank loosened up the corrosion. I found out when I pulled the fuel filter and found it full of rusty silt,
