- harold1946ExplorerThe 225 or 245 designates the sectional width in milimeters only. It has no bearing on the load range of the tire. The higher number would also indicate a taller tire.
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
What I was asking was that a 225 and 245--of the same load rating (E), will the 245 carry more weight. I.E. have greater carrying capacity? - harold1946Explorer

Hi gmctoyman,
Thanks for the great calculator.
Now if I could find one that would tell me what the load capacity of a 225 vs a 245 are I'd be in heaven.
The 225 and 245 are both available in load ranges A,B,C,D,E,F,G.
A being the lowest and each letter representing a progressively higher load rating. The load rating identification is on every tire. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi gmctoyman,

Hi,
There is a firm that does have 17.5 inch wheels--but tires are probably scarce. Scarce means expensive.
I'm going to go to wider tires from LT225/75R16 to LT245/75R16. Be sure there is room in the wheel wells.
The extra carrying capacity may allow me to lower the tire pressure and smooth out the (bumpy) ride.
Be very careful. You need clearance above and beyond the max dynamic sidewall deflection for the flex of the sidewalls plus an air gap, not just static space when measuring tire to tire sitting still. This might require a wheel spacer.
Jim - gmctoymanExplorerhere's a good tire size calculator...if you don't have one.
calculator - pianotunaNomad IIIHi gmctoyman,
I'm not considering 17.5 rims. I'm considering wider rims.
The R is a ratio of width to height--so if I go from 225 to 245 I'll have more side wall, and a slightly larger diameter--and more load carrying capacity.
225 X 75 = 168; 245 X 75 =~ 184
184 - 168 = 15 mm increase (I don't know if that is a radius or a diameter) - gmctoymanExplorerAlways some supercharged DA that either can't or doesn't read a topic....or just wants to show his a..s instead of sitting quietly on it and MAYBE learning something !! No mention was made of fuel mileage, or any other reason for wanting info from some who MAY have already done the change. 19.5" wheels are available for the E450 chassis.
I am getting ready to put Alcoa wheels on I thought I might investigate the larger size. Still haven't said WHY have I?
Thanks for the reply Don. Are the 17.5's you are considering LT tires ? - SuperchargedExplorer

I just bought a new set of tires just like what came on the unit. I will be out having fun and see the country while the rest of the RV people are trying to see it they can save$25 on there gas bill by only spend $2000 doing it. I don't go down those roads in life any more with the greeny.
Has anyone here replaced the 16" wheels on their E450 chassis with 19.5" wheels ?
