Freezer works, refrig not

My wife and I have a 2012 F37RSQ Cameo that has done a great job for the 6-7 trips we take a year. In preparation for a trip to Glacier NP on Saturday, my wife defrosted the refrig (double door Norcold). After letting it sit over night, she replugged the drain hose and started it again this morning. When I went to check on it this afternoon, the freezer was cooling as normal, but the refrig part was at 70F, no cooling at all.
I'm terrible at fixing things, does anyone have a place I should start checking to get the refrig cooling again. Thanks in advance.

  • A couple of points- "hot wiring" a heating element is not recommended by any manufacturer these days, as it bypasses all of the safeties in place to keep the thing from burning down- if you hot wire and the unit is bad, it can catch fire. Now I have been known to hot wire- I just doi not do it when I am not going to be around- never overnight.

A 2012 Norcold would have throw an error if it was not cooling at all- in the original post, 70 degrees was a sign of no cooling, but if it started out at 85, it was, indeed cooling.

Is this in a slideout? Are the fans on the back running?
  • 1. MODEL number, do not state double door
    2. Is this in a slide room? Doug

Unplug electric heater element leads from circuit board. Plug end of leads directly into 120V AC outlet (unplug fridge power cord and use that outlet)

Run fridge with element overnight and check temps after 24 hrs.

IF freezer temps are NOT down to 0*F and food section temps NOT down to 32*F then cooling unit is bad.
Direct wiring bypasses circuit board & thermostat....force cools

IF temps are down....issue could be with thermistor or circuit board. BUT you will know it is NOT cooling unit blockage

  • You need temperature readings from the freezer. Numbers. To diagnose correctly. Otherwise you are furnishing incomplete information.

  • Freezer cooling......food section not

Classic sign of cooling unit blockage!!!

After 4 hours fins in food section should be getting cool.
    Fins not cool....
Time to check into cooling unit replacement

Hopefully you just are impatient and it cools down'
  • Are you running on LPG or electricity? Whichever it is, try the other. If you are having problems with only one method, you could use the other until you solve the bigger problem. Most people feel that LPG will cool the unit faster. And don't worry until at least 24 hours after you started cooling - the freezer always gets much colder much quicker.

There are many, many posts on this problem and somewhat related ones, like the one I posted just a few days ago.

In any case, it would help anyone trying to give you advice what brand (Norcold)and model # refrigerator you have, whether the problem occurs on LPG or electricity, or both, whether there are any error codes on the refrigerator display panel, and whether you have gone through the troubleshooting steps outlined in your user manual.
