FYI: "Infinitely" Long Test Leads

Make really long test leads by attaching wire and alligator clips to the neutral and ground (not the hot) on a pair of 110 cord ends. Use an extension cord to make it as long as necessary.

  • Thanks, Dave, I like it! I have strung out a bunch of wire on a few occasions just to get a measurement, and this idea is much neater.
  • I once made a 1,000 ft cable for a video camera when a mare was about to give birth. I used a 1,000 ft roll of romex cable and soldered some coax connectors on each end. They say you can't do that, but it worked, and when she started to give birth, we saw it on our t.v. monitor, and called the vet, since we expected problems.
  • in the IT industry this is sometimes called a "turbo cable", except the clips are on hot and neutral, who needs ground.
