Generator exhaust pipe

We are heading to Michigan for Dream Cruise and hit a pot hole and the generator exhaust pipe fell off and I ran it over with the rear tires. I stopped and pick it up. Well now we can't run the house AC with out the generator. Got to our camp site at Haas Lake in Wixom Michigan and call General RV. Talk to their parts people who tried to get the part but can't because they can't sell Freightliner parts. I said OK, thanks for trying. Did Google search and found Denny's Auto repair service in Plymouth Mi. They make custom exhaust pipes. Talked with Denny and his son and they said not a problem. They made pipe just like the one that fell off. Took it back to the coach and found out why it fell off. The dia off the muffle pipe is 1 3/8 OD and the dia of the exhaust pipe was 1 5/8 ID. When the coach was built they had the clamp half on the pipe and half on the muffler. Looking and the union and seeing all the carbon is was never sealing. Took it back to Denny's and he made a reducer and now it fits like a glove. No more leaks. Well anyway everything worked out well. So i would like to thank Denny and his people for saving out trip. As a bonus found out Denny and I were in the same class in high school, small world.

A lot of goofy stuff this season, still loving it.

Happy Camping, bye Dennis

  • Thanks for the report. You may want to post it on rvservicereviews.com.

FWIW, my first call would have been to a muffler/exhaust shop. It's probably easier to have one bent to fit than find the correct size/shape.
