Generator Exhaust Pipe

We just bought a Octane Jayco 2013 camper. The exhaust pipe for the generator is right under the door to get to it. At times we have to use the piping to go up and over the top of the camper. My question is: to mount this exhaust pipe it will not give me access to open the generator door without removing that pipe. Do I go ahead and mount the holding brackets or not?

Thanks
Kerri

  • We made an extension for our to make sure the basement door could stay open. Had a problem with the gen overheating when it stayed closed.

If you are talking about mounting a Gen-Turi.. Then this may help you.

You would think that with the hot exhaust gasses that pipe would get hot, very hot, however only one time has mine gotten hot enough to be uncomfortable (NOTE, DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL PARTS WHEN THE GENERATOR IS (or recently has been) running, ONLY THE BLACK PIPE.

I can, if I must, open the door, start the generator, (or service it) then pop the extension on (It just slips in and pins) then when I go to shut down use PLIARS to pull the pin (Which is now lost anyway) and remove the unit without touching the metal or only touching it with heavy leather (the edge of the sole of my shoe)

The one time It got too hot to handle.. it was the SUN, not the generator, that made it that way.
  • We have trouble with gas and smoke detectors going off when trying to run generator. Exhaust come out right behind slide, and we suspect some exhaust is coming in around slide. I picked up a 6' piece of flexable exhaust pipe at a parts dealer, and just slide it over the generator exhaust when needed. carries the fumes and some sound out away from MH side.

Not familiar with your rig and have a hard time visualizing your situation.

What generator are you referring to. Built in Onan or ?

Typical built in Onan setup has exterior door which lifts up (door is part of rig not generator) allowing access to generator - muffler/tailpipe sticks out a few inches from rig below generator but can be routed to different location by muffler shop.

I think they are talking about an add on pipe that exits above the camper.

  • My Genturi is blocking the generator access door when installed. No need to open it.
