NO, Most Gensets do not have a charge system, especially RV designed Gensets. Powertech gensets, you can order an optional charger module that is just to keep the battery up from the 12 volts used by the genset. You need to just get a battery maintainer type 120 charge module to keep your battery up. On a 2002 Newmar MADP, your APU (genset) does NOT charge anything. It has no charger. What it does on your model is this--- Once the Genset powers the motorhome, you have an Inverter/Charger and THAT charges the coach batteries. Your system also has an Intellitec Bi charger system. Once the Coach voltage comes up and over 13.1 volts, the charge relay closes and this supplies charging to the chassis batteries. The Chassis engine Alternator supplies charge voltage DIRECT to the chassis batteries. Not thru any other appliance. So, if the chassis Alternator is not charging, you need to find out why. The chassis Alternator if functioning WILL charge the coach batteries thru that Intellitec bi charger relay system. Doug
MOST 2002 MADP had the Inverter/Charger, but some had 2- 40 amp Power converters. Doug- On a 2002 Newmar MADP, your APU (genset) does NOT charge anything. It has no charger. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
Sometimes. If it doesn't a trik-l-start unit can be added.64thunderbolt wrote:

- othertonkaExplorerYour onan should provide 110 Volts AC to the "Convertor" and the convertor should charge your battery. Make sure the convertor is plugged in to an 110 outlet and that all the 110 breakers are turned on and not tripped.
