Gfi outlet in my travel trailer

The wire nut is located about 2" from the breaker its hooked up to. Thats a great idea because I have one more spot to add a breaker for the outside GFCI to be on its own circuit and it would eliminate that wire nut. Thanks westend.

Hopefully, the wire nut exists outside the load center but in a box of some sort. If that isn't the case, you may want to either add a box to enclose that wire nut splice (good time to add a receptacle) or to pull new wire from the outside GFCI to it's own breaker.
From what I've seen, AC distribution in most TT's is woefully inadequate. I'm sure this is at the behest of the bean counters that finalize design.

But what is a wire nut doing being used at a breaker?

Congratulations! Is there a way to eliminate the wire nut and replace with something less prone to vibration? I've seen many cases where the electrician gets the wire nut tight then wraps it in electrical tape, saying it helps it stay in place. I don't know how much it helps, but I'd try it if other choices weren't available.

Ok found the problem it was a wire nut at the breaker! Some how the main power wire wiggled its way loose and was arcing which I'm guessing was the problem why the gfi would not reset properly. So i reset all my wires and put the wire nut on correctly and everything works fine now. Thank you everyone for your input it help out a lot.

Verify power is present at the first in line GFCI location. Install GFCI without any load wires connected. Reset GFCI. This will eliminate the first GFCI as a problem (if it resets). Connect load wiring to first GFCI in line with no devices connected to any receptacles. This should eliminate the load circuit and receptacles as cause (if the first GFCI does not trip). Duplicate for the other GFCI protected circuits.

I am assuming you know how to interrupt power during the sequence of installing and connecting devices, i.e. turn the breaker off.

You might also want to pull the cover off the AC load center and make sure the neutral wires are all connected to the neutral bus securely. Seems there are always a number of posts about neutral wires coming loose.

Yeah it was the first thing I unplugged and there is nothing else plugged into that circuit that I know of.

First disconnect the downstream outlets and see if you can use the GFCI one by itself. If that works, you may have to divide and conquer by splitting the downstream line up temporarily at the other outlets.
