Heater Electrical Question

Ok I have a question my heater has been running fine till today it sounded like the fan was running half speed.. Well I thought it was running off my power converter but turns out it was running off the 12v battery that starts the rv.. I had to put a charger on it today.. My question is how do I get it to run off the power converter an not my battery?? Another thing is that my generator was taken out to get it rebuilt could it be that them wires are disconnected from there causing the problem? I'm just learning about rv's so please bear with me..
  • You need to see which wires the person that removed the genset disconnected and what was reconnected.
It sounds as though they connected the wire from the coach battery to the chassis battery.
Yes if they didn't blow any fuses or connected the battery up back wards it should be running off the converter.
Check for blow fuse in the DC power distribution center.
Check the converter to see if has any reverse polarity fuses and verify that they are not blown.
  • The generator is still out right now.. I'm plugged into 110 outlet shouldn't it run off of that? And not the battery.? It's the first time running the battery low.. I'm kinda confused how the power system works in here keep in mind in new to rvs..

You coach battery may be connected ok but you aLso should be careful letting the coach battery go discharged below 12.0VDC for a long period of time. This may do harm to your battery and will need to be replaced. Another unnecessary expense of no fault of your own....

You may need to keep your battery recharged using a portable smart mode charger directly connected to the battery terminals until you get the battery(s) connected properly...

  • Mexicowanderer has it correct. Whoever disconnected the cables to work on the genset, re-terminated them onto the wrong battery system.
