Help trying to remove black tank valve

I am trying to remove my cable actuated black tank valve to check for an obstruction. It wont close all the way (1/2" remains at handle). I thing there is something lodged in the valve (either piece of plastic from factory or something hard. I opened belly, removed the four bolts and tried to remove the valve. It wont budge. The 3" black/grey drain outlet pipe goes up into the belly to a 3" Y fitting with the grey and black tanks and valves on either side of the Y (fore and aft). I can not get the valve flange to separate and dont want to force things in fear I will crack something. All plumbing is very tight (no movement.
Also, it turns out that Keystone installed "Bristol" brand cable actuated valves on both grey and black tanks. They are not very common. Valterra seems to be the more common valve brand. Here is the exact valve: Bristol 3" valve

Has anyone tried to remove or service one of these Bristol valves? Help......
Thanks
Steve

  • therink,

On my MH, the Black and Grey water tank valves are connected to a common hard tee. You may need to loosen the grey tank valve also to remove the black tank valve. Additionally between each valve and tank is a rubber coupler that can be removed. Loosening enough fittings could provide the flexibility to remove the valve in question. Good luck. JM2¢...
  • If it were me, I would take the cable off first and see if you can open/close the valve by hand. It may be a bound or slipping cable.

  • The only time I had to take off a valve I initially thought it couldn't be done either, at least not without cutting something. But once I got the right leverage, it popped out. I also read a post a long time ago about somebody else using a come-along to move the pipe.

You might want to check with the manufacturer to make sure they didn't use any glue.
