Help with ice maker water line in Dometic DM 2862

I recently purchased a new Dometic DM 2862 with an ice maker. I had it installed by a recommended mobile RV Tech. A few days after they left, water came gushing out the back of the unit. I quickly turned off the water to the ice maker line. Since the old frig had been damaged on account of the water line, I contacted this RV Tech. After a month of trying and getting assistance from the RV dealer that recommended him, texting contact was made. He basically told me he wasn't coming back, he wasn't a plumber, and I was on my own. And, oh I better not tell anyone how he did me or he would sue me for slander. He had been the one to hook up the water line, it had seemed very reasonable to contact him to look at it and fix.
So, now I am on my own thanks to a mobile RV tech that I will never recommend, as that just seems like a mean thing to do to anyone. So in investgating further, I noticed the water line was now just sitting there looking as though it just came loose from the fittings. I cannot see nor do I know where it is to insert to. I am asking for assistance as the manual does not show where the water line connects into. Thank you in advance. Eager to once again have ice.
  • Thanks for the info. The ice maker is about six feet above where I am standing on the ground outside of the camper. And the plastic tubing is only approx 10" long. So I guess I will have to unscrew the frig and slide it out some and see exactly how much tubing I really need.
  • I couldn't find a picture, but it is held in to a fitting that is directly behind the ice make (on the outside)- the fitting will be covered in foil tape and a dum-dum type sealant. You will have to peel the tape off to access the fitting. IIRC, it has a spring clamp on it.
I'll keep looking for a photo.
  • Despite believing the manual should show where this connects, it does not. Not sure where to find this insertion point, nothing is shouting, "hey, stick plastic tubing in here". Does anyone have a photo or diagram? I tried Youtube for videos on how to do it. Nothing.

It's not slander if you tell the truth.
  • 1. ANY person that calls himself an RV Tech will do plumbing. He is a scam artist and he does not have the resources to sue you or anybody. TRUTH is defense to slander. As long as you truthfully state what happened he will not try to sue you. YOU on the other hand may have recourse in the State of Florida. I do know that you have to be licensed in the state to do any type of home improvements. You can also sue HIM in small claims court for what he did.
    2. The water line is easy to reinstall. If the line came loose at the rear bottom. Doug

PS. If you have text messages, print them out in case something happens in the future. You best bet is to pay someone to fix your problem and have them document the cause of the failure so if you decide to take him to small claims court you have the text messages and the documentation from the correct repair. The odds are, even if you go to small claims court, the so called tech will not have any assets or anything to force him to pay, BUT, if you win, then you can truthfully tell others what happened and you have the documents to prove it.
  • The manual should show the hookup for the ice maker. IF the line is going up high and that end is loose it just inserts into a grommeted hole. There is not supposed to be any pressure build up on the line but if the ice maker over fills due to improper adjustment an ice blockage will cause the end of the hose to plug and the pressure when the ice maker cycles the water on will pop the hose out.
