Honda 2000 generator tote / case...

I carry my Honda 2000 generator on a hitch hauler on the rear of my truck camper. Trying to keep it clean and dry is a challenge. Armed with dimensions I visited the local "Job Lot" store and found a plastic tote that is almost perfect.

I added a couple of tabs to the rear of the lid to hook under the rim of the tub:

On the front I added a couple of oak blocks and two latches:

The Honda fits just about perfect, but is about 1/2" too high near the gas fill. The top is pliable and can still be "snapped" at the sides and the latches on the front pull everything together.

Read for the road! (I tie it down with a ratchet strap and throw a cable lock over it.)

I guess I don't have enough stuff in the forward compartment of my FW as I am able to get both of my Hondas in that area. I know, it's under the bedroom, but we take them out when we get parked so they are not there when we are in the FW.

Unlike the OP I store my EU2000i in this Rubbermaid bin (Model 2215 in both Canada and the US) not so much to secure it while traveling but because I store the genset when not in use in my workshop and doing so seals in any gas / oil fumes completely. In my case it travels in the back of my Avalanche when we're camping but if I otherwise had to store it somewhere in the trailer I'd definitely not do so without having it in a bin like this which would eliminate any chances of unpleasant odours getting into the camper.

  • We purchased a couple of Otto Industries-USA 18 gallon recycling bins with snap on lids. I needed to make small cut out in the lid for the 2000u handles (keep each inside a plastic bag and without fuel in the TV) but this plastic seems far more rigid than the other units that I've seen. check out their outlet store stock (shipping is more expensive than the bins and lids-for super rigidity use two bins with one lid for @).

I really can't put them on the back of the FW since I have a boat hooked there most of the time we are going somewhere.
  • SoundGuy!...Great idea! I'm buying a second bin tomorrow and doing exactly like you did to resolve the height issue and your design will keep the generator in place....PERFECTO!

AMEN on the "OUT OF SIGHT"... I still would be worried sick leaving it unattended at a camp ground however...

  • Yes, I do the same, but use a Rubbermaid 18 gallon tub because I have a lot of them and then a bungee cord across the top. Works to protect it and keep it out of sight when not in use.
