Honda eu1000i - How To Clean Fuel Filter?

I was just now putting some gas in my generator and noticed some small debris in the fuel filter. I pulled it out (not actually knowing if that was possible...luckily, it was! :@ )

I have no idea if I clean it with water, or a little gasoline, or put a cotton swab down there...or anything else. I googled it and got nothing but how to tear down the machine. Like I'd ever even attempt THAT!

Help?
Thanks!

Regards,
Michelle

  • If you don't have anything else, I think I'd work to try and clean with the Q-tip, and put it back together. Get a new one when you can.
Do not use water, or any water based cleaners.

I would recommend against using gasoline as a cleaner.
  • Ether can MELT some plastics. So can many carburetor cleaners, trichloroethylene, etc. Plain old gasoline, lots of caution and a blast of air from a computer dust can will do the job just fine.

    Would starting fluid work?

    Probably, Can't hurt to try!

  • You can clean with carb cleaner, or just buy a new one...they aren't that expensive....especially, if you're not sure about how your cleaning is going.
