- Optimistic_ParaExplorerIf I absolutely, positively needed to run my generator, and it was either raining out, or threatening to rain, I would put it under the picnic table, or something like it.
I would also find some way to get it up off the ground, in case water pooled there for some reason. - ktmrfsExplorer IIin the 15 years we've owned our honda 2000 generators we have very often had them running in the open in a heavy rain. the option was either (a) not run it at all (b) put it under the trailer to run it or (c) run it in the rain.
option (b) is NOT a wise choice, given the high chance of CO getting into the trailer.
Others we have camped with have also run them in the rain with no ill effects.
Now, honda will say NO! - profdant139Explorer IIAlthough rain might not be a problem, why take a chance? I bring a heavy, stiff tarp that forms a tent (open on both ends for ventilation) to cover the generator. I secure the tarp with rocks on the flaps. Low-tech, but it works perfectly.
- AtleeExplorer IIIf some rain gets on the Honda's, they are not going to self destruct. However, when I know it's going to rain, I try to shield the front of them from the rain. I prefer water not running down into the electrical circuits.
Rain will not hurt the exhaust end of the Honda's. - ScottGNomadI think your pretty safe running it in the rain. The worst that might happen is water in the outlet which will eventually damage it.
Officially they are not to be used in the rain and I've read that the open outlet is the reason they are not UL approved. - azrvingExplorerYes, I have run mine in the rain because I forgot it was running. If our truck is turned around with gen pointed away we can't hear it so I forget. It didn't instantly self destruct but NO, you shouldn't run it in the rain because it's 120 volts ac. Make some sort of shield over it.
- allbrandautoExplorerwhat is the difference when your plugged into shore power or generator when its raining

Yes I've run mine in the rain. - FizzExplorer

It appears that the engine and generator are well covered within the housing but the electrical exposure is obvious.
