honda generators

have a Honda 2000 companion with rv outlet and Honda eu 1000.Parallel cable hookup not recommended by Honda.Anybody ever done it .Could do with a bit more than the 2000 occasionally. I don't dare just try .
  • It works. Install the parallel cables first between both units. Start up the Eu1000i first. Then start up the Eu2000i. I start both of mine up in Eco mode, and run them about 2 minutes before I take them out of Eco mode and plug the shore power cable in. Then I go inside and turn on the A/C in low fan mode. Once the A/C fires up and the electrical load has stabilized, I'll set the thermostat to 68 F, and then place the Eu2000i only in Eco mode, leaving the EU1000i in normal mode. Both of them loaf, once the compressor has gotten up and running. The object of the temp settings is to not have the A/C cycling on and off, pulling heavy start loads on the generators. Get it running and keep in running by temp control.

I don't recommend doing this, to anyone else, unless you have some basic understanding of electricity, current, amps drawn, voltage drops, and electrical motor and compressor start up current draws.

There are kits out there to pair 3 Honda Eu1000I's together for 3000 Watts, so they can be synched.
  • I've done it. It does work. It can be handy in a pinch. Then I discovered my EU2000 will start my AC with everything else turned off at the panel. It is much easier to deal with 1 unit.

You may get away with pairing them to start the compressor, turning the thermostat to 50, turning off the 1,000, letting the single generator run the compressor from there.

    Parallel a EU-2000i and an EU-1000i.

Yes it has been done.. Members in one of the forums I visit posted that they have done it.. AS I RECALL you must start the 1000 first.

I believe this is because the 2000 has a special "Sense" mode it starts in that syncs it with the already running inverter generator (if any) and the 1000 does not since it was not designed to be parrallelled.

And I do not recommend it

But given enough time I might be interested in that 1000. (I actually want a Yahama EF-1200i.)
  • don't know about the companion. The EU's have auto-sensing outputs. When connected in parallel, they auto-sync their frequency.

If the companion doesn't have that, it may not work.
  • I have paralleled an Eu2000 and an Eu1000 and run a 13.5K BTU AC with the combination. While it worked, the EU1000 was running at maximum output and the EU2000 was loafing. I was hoping for load sharing proportional to their capacity. I tried switching which generator was the master but the result was the same.
