Propane has its benefits. No stinking gas tanks, it doesn't get old or gum up the carburetors. It has it's downsides but if it is your objective, you can get a decent quieter generator that will run on propane.
We boondock and on the rare occasion we need our generator, it is one like the above mentioned. ( basic unit $300) This is boondocking out in the middle of no where and not just a dry camp ground. There are no neighbors to listen to our generator so the fact that it isn't the quietest isn't a issue.
