How to install a yoga swing in my living room?

My rig is very well-made. Two heavy people can walk on the roof. I figure that much weight can walk on it I can surely hang gently from it. I'm only 125 lbs. A yoga swing is like any other swing. I'll need to put two bolts through the roof, but the question is where -- without running into wiring etc...and what's up there? Are there wooden cross-beams? How do I figure out where to put this? I figure I just need to secure it then caulk it up on the roof like anything else, yes?

I really want this thing. Need to find some way to make it happen.
  • Thanks!

Nah, need more freedom than the stand provides, but thanks for the link! I'm definitely going to anchor it but yes, if I could do that without going all the way through the roof -- all the better. There is a seam in the living room ceiling. By tapping I can tell there's something solid under there. How thick do you think the wood is, and how wide? My best guess by knocking with a knuckle is about 10"

Here's a photo of the ceiling when you lay dead center in the living room with your feet facing the back of the rig. The seam is a little more forward than I'd like. Ideally, it would be great to anchor it between the two lights but I can't tell if there's a cross beam there. There would have to be supports at regular intervals to walk on the roof, right? And the lights have to be anchored to something. But maybe it's not a major support. That close to the major seam I doubt it is.

The manufacturer is out of business. I don't think there' anything in the owner's manual that shows the outer structure.
  • Most RV roofs are strong due to a process used to pressure seal the inner and outer panels along with all of the insulation together using glue and a vacuum process. This creates a strong platform which distributes weight across the roof. You would have to drill through the roof and put a plate on top of the roof to spread the weight across the roof. Anytime you penetrate the roof you create the possibility of a leak. There aren't the typical rafters to screw into like in a home.

Your best bet would be to use a stand like this

Or have something built to fit in the area of your RV.
  • Lag screws into roof cross members.

Any place ceiling panels meet is one place a cross member will be.

Then are they on 16" or 24" Centerlines???

    Mfg. would have info

I sure as heck would NOT be going completely thru roof :S
