I need more room for batteries.

and here all this time I have been getting away with dumb luck. A new toy always sounds fun but $50 for a one time thing....I was thinking maybe the inverter but it can't do that type of load. I would take the hydrometer with me.

I didn't think of the wiring being used to maintain them but I doubt they were created for that. They must have been reconfigured to a higher voltage for use. That's got to be one heck of a 6 volt charger.

I'll have to ring him back. I forgot to ask about the manufacture dat and if he will split up the bank if we can't buy it whole.

I agree, the picture does appear to show all the batteries are in parallel. The wiring shown must be meant only to maintain?

Connect a pair of those GC220's in series. 12 volts.

Apply a 220 ampere carbon pile load.

Wait for a full 30 seconds versus 15 for a standard CCA test.

Maybe the wiring shown was used purely for maintaining charge after the batteries were disconnected at the cabin and relocated?

Good News on the batteries. Topped off is one of the key elements.

Called on the ad

It was a small cabin used on weekends, Batteries kept topped off. Owner will run a generator while cabin is in use and plans on listing it for sale this year.

Person selling works a solar company that does small off grid systems for cabins. With those wires, I hope they were not the installers.

Yes, you can use smaller wire with 24 volts, but that wire still looks puny to me.

The capacity would have been 24v x 232a x 3 or about 16000 watt-hours. Going with 50% gives a useable capacity of 8 kwh.

That is pretty skinny for an off the grid situation. At least 750 watts of solar would be needed. Again that is pretty skinny for running "off the grid" in a home.
