With 24V I think you can go with a smaller wire size, correct?

Thanks but I just catch them at the right time. I see a number of batteries bought for projects not completed. Last year there was four new Lifeline AGM 8-D for $600. This year there was a massive used residential bank that was in the free section. No one would buy it so he gave it away.

I watch CL elsewhere for family and friends, the deals are out there. :)

Yeah, I let one slip through my fingers a few years back. A local guy was selling 6 Rolls-Surrette's for $450, IIRC. They looked new and the story was he was abandoning an off-grid system. If true, I wish I had them now. :(

Back to six. I'll call tomorrow and see whats what.

I'd be a little cautious - might be worth load testing those batteries. If the boss gave up on solar after one year (judging by the interconnection wires - he doesn't know how to make solar work). Chances are, those batteries have been chronically under-charged for the whole year.

Valid point. Hopefully I'll get some details on the system when I call. Is load testing on a deep cycle the same as a starting battery? It would take a while but I could check the SG.
