Ideas for carrying/securing open framed generator

Where do you folks camp that you must run generators night and day? I don't care if they can be heard for fifty or two hundred feet, they can still be heard. An inverter generator is just as obnoxious sounding as a fixed speed generator as it races up and down when the microwave or air conditioner cycles.

I have owned many generators of all brands. I put a Honda 1000 on the asphalt paver for auxiliary lighting when doing night paving and used a diesel powered light plant for other night work. I know what a contractor generator is. Both of those and then some. Champion bashing is a hobby with some on here.

Like I said, before I run my generator all day and night, I will move to cooler places or find a campground with hookups. I realize everyone is not that lucky. I do not want to park next to a couple of humming Hondas any more than you want to hear the drone of a Champion. As far as other people being inconsiderate, that seems to be the way things are today. I go where they are not. I do not need anyone's thanks for behaving the way I do. It is just the right way to do things.

This is one of the most entertaining generator threads I have had the pleasure to read in many moons!!!

I built a rack to hold my generator above the propane tanks on the a frame of an old Alpha TH and it worked well. Extra weight was not noticeable on the tongue jack or when towing. Downside was starting it. It was a rope pull and with it being high I darn near had to get on a ladder to start it.

TomG2, I think you're mistakenly thinking that others are attacking you; that's not the case. You've made it clear that you don't use your loud generator where it will disturb others; thank you for that. But a few clarifications; Yes, Honda & Yamaha both make contractor generators, but in the context of RV forums & discussions, when someone mentions either, they are not talking about those, but rather the quieter 2000W inverter units. Of course Champion also makes quiet units; and all 3 make loud open frame generators as well. Brand (or color) is not the issue here, "type" is. No one has "slammed" anyone for their choice of generator brands, only their choice of "type" and even then only where/when it isn't appropriate. This is, after all, an RV forum, not a construction forum. Loud, open frame, contractor type generators used in campgrounds or close proximity to others, as Devocamper has said, is NEVER acceptable. Since by your claims, that does not apply to you, I'm not sure why you are taking it as an attack; the only "attacking" going on seems to be from you. In fact, 2oldman thanked you several times, yet you've continued to attack him and others over and over. Relax, have a beer (it must be 5:00 somewhere!), and enjoy wherever you happen to be.

Why do you feel compelled to quote me and post this twice? I have NEVER advocated placing a generator where it would bother other people and I do NOT do that. However, it is nice to have a simple $300 one pull source of 30 amps of electricity when I need it and it does not irritate folks like you. By the way, the word is quiet, not quite.

I never park within 400' of people running any brand of generator. Thanks for the report but you cannot hear my generator from 400' in any direction. Sixty long paces and the sound is gone. As a surveyor, I know about what 200' looks like and as a contractor, I know what real contractor generators sound like. I also realize it is popular to slam what others own.

It was not meant to be "cute". The fact is that every time the word Champion appears on these forums, a few "Know it alls" chime in with the same old refrain about "Contractor" generators when most of them have never been within tem miles of a construction site. There is some validity in saying that a 68db noise level is more irritating than a 65 db noise level. It does not matter what color the machine is that is making the noise. All Hondas are not silent and all Champions will not get me or anyone else banned from the wonderful world of RVing. Unless some members have that power.

Find one person who has ever heard my generator running. Bashing the competition makes me wonder where some of these posts originate. All gasoline fueled generators make noise. I don't want to hear yours and you will never hear mine. Who is being inconsiderate here?
