Internal fuse for the WFCO 55 Amp Converter?

I just noticed that I'm not charging the batteries when hooked up to the power pole. The batteries are down to 12.0v, they should be showing at least 13.4v.

The 12 volt DC output is fine, all the lights work as does the fridge and propane detector etc.

My question, is there a fuse in the converter box, I can't see because it's a closed box not like my old open frame converter?

I'm assuming I could buy a battery charger to charge the batteries until I figure out the problem. The biggest issue would be letting the batteries get too low and prevent the slides and landing gear from working?

Any help wuld be appreciated.

I'm hoping I could just purchase a battery charger to continue our camping trip unless it could be something simple like a fuse. The unit itself is under the stove so access is terrible, but I could cut away a panel under the sink if I had too.

The battery charger may work if it will keep up with the discharge rate. We used one when our converter went out this last summer. It worked, but just barely. We had to keep a close eye on what we were using so we didn't discharge the battery more than the charger could keep up with.

If you're not charging your batteries it's unlikely your DC output from the converter is fine. It's more likely that you're running off the battery and running the battery down. Easy way to check would be to disconnect the battery and see if you still have 12V power. I'll bet you won't.

    duhhh, you're right !

I'm running off the batteries, boy I feel stupid.

Just looked at two fuses and they are good....and I'm getting 12.0 volts from the batteries.

    Sure is looking like converter.

One thing, when I connect the battery the fan does come on for 10 seconds then stops. A clue?

    Thanks

  • When you checking the reverse polarity fuse take the time to measure the voltage right at the converter. If the converter is putting out power then check for auto reset circuit breaker near the battery - when they go south it takes the battery offline.
  • Is your converter in a power center or is it a stand alone?

  • What is model number of your 55 amp converter?
Some models have reverse polarity fuses.
