Inverter install transfer switch or .....

I haven't done this yet but would like some information about installing a residential fridge and inverter power it. Is anyone willing to explain or do a diagram. I know the inverter runs off the battery and should be close to the battery but what I am wondering if you can or should run it off the battery all of the time. I would prefer to switch to 110v when on shore power. So is there some type or switch between the inverter and shore power. If so, does it switch automatically or manual.

Does anyone know where this is explained in layman's terms.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

You can run all the time from the inverter if the converter is big enough to handle the extra load. Powering this way is called double conversion and it is not terribly efficient. I found it extremely useful before I upgraded to a hybrid inverter.

I prefer to not use a transfer switch so I installed a female outlet powered from the inverter into which I plug the shore power cord.
  • My 2000watt Inverter/Charger has a built-in transfer switch that performs that function.

Look up Inverter schematics. Maybe they will show something.
Not sure I would run the fridge off an inverter. Requires too much power.
