Inverter Swap 1000 for 2000watts

I have a fried 1000watt inverter/ charger, and I am wondering if I can swap it w a 2000watt one without any other changes to my electrical system.? They are the same brand and are the same exact unit, wired the same and everything. Even the control board is the same, the single only difference is the one puts out 2000watts and the original 1000watts. Thanks for yout help

Now that you say you're swapping for another in the Freedom series, I can agree. Not every "inverter" does everything these Heart Interface units like the Freedom 10 and 20 do. Like Transfer Switch and Battery Charging. I think you'd be OK with this swap, just realizing that even 1000W is going to run batteries down pretty fast, let alone 2000W.
  • Well I have read the manual on both units and looked at the pictures of both and the wiring going in and coming out of both appear to be exactly the same size etc. It is a heart interface freedom 10

being swapped for a freedom 20.

  • As others have suggested, it is NOT just a plug and play replacement. You have to verify the size of all the wiring involved.

Wire size would be the only concern...doubt they put in anything larger than what's needed for 1000W in your B.
  • New unit can draw over twice the amperage from the batteries, or at least try.
12 volt wiring would need to up sized unless you leave fusing in place from 1000 mwatt unit. It may blow fuses if too small.
The incoming 120 volt amperage will increase. verify size of circuit breaker.
  • How did you fry it ?
    Too much inverter load?
    Too much charging load ?
    Or bad voltage ?
The 2000w can use more amps from the battery
Is the existing BATTERY wire big enough to carry the amps
FOR 2000w. Approx 170 amps, when you use full power

Be sure to put a fuse at the BATTERY on the inverter cable that is sized for the existing wire, Not Max inverter power
Other wise you might melt the wire and start a wire
Say when you use the big MW or Keurig coffee maker
  • As long as the wire connections meet the installation specs for 2000 watts you are fine.
  • Should be fine. It will draw slightly more idle current.
