This maybe a dumb question to ask but do you put a 30a breaker in the main panel and one in the sub panel? I'm thinking not. the inverter Magnum 2812 is 30 a pass through. I have ordered my inverter and looking for the sub panel which is hard to find a 120v sub panel like the one at AM Solar which I did find cheaper, or is there another choice.UPDATE: the manual states 30a breaker on both sides of the inverter one at the main and one at the sub panel

Both sides of the inverter should be fused for safety sake. 30A inverter is probably 30A out put so 30A breaker there. Input will need way more than that.

The only place you need a fuse or breaker is where there mite be a short circuit :)

If I remember correctly the Magnum will have input and output breakers built in. They're little push-in style breakers. You don't need a main in the output sub panel; the input breaker will prevent overload of anything downstream. But, extra breakers don't hurt anything.

Why not just use that box? It is rated to 40amps but there's nothing wrong with using a 30 amp breaker.

Mine is mounted on a steel wall, but its mounted to the left rather than the right and they don't like that. I talked to the factory ready to do battle on the preferred mounting scheme to direct electrons.. They say its all about containment of burning components should there be a failure. Since mine is in a steel box with the only thing below it is a giant SO cable I'm not too worried.

You can jump the two sides together or just use one side.

My link might only be available on line and is probably all you need.
Although it is not really a recessed mount box so it may not look great but OK for down in a storage area. Just a low cost item to compare.

I have been looking through the manual for the 2812 and it shows mounting up right you need a hood but if you mount sideways you don't, So how are people mounting these? Also they have a metal backing plate is it worth buying due to the fact it is not to be mounted to combustibles. Thanks

So the Magnum 2812 has 30a breakers built in. So I will put a 30a in the current panel run to the inverter and out to the sub panel for the circuits i.e. micro, and outlets. Any problems with that?

I went to Home depot and everything they had was for 240 volt and had 2 hot legs

I need to go look at the book but the Magnum's come in several different flavors: those with fused (breaker) panels, and those that have output breakers built in.

If you are pulling power off the RV panel you will pop in a 30 amp breaker to connect your feed wire to the bus.

Sub-panel will depend on the style. Larger panels often will have input breakers(mains) and smaller stuff will often have just a terminal for input and breakers for the output.

How many branch circuits do you plan to feed?
