Killing batteries 3x is too much, if you can't afford to buy a 4th set.
If you can afford to buy a 4th set, then it's not too much.
Try doing a search for these 4 terms, and search them one at a time.
"Voltage, Bulk Charge"

That should give you plenty of reading to do, and answer all your questions.
