Is this slide out motor gone?

My slide out motor quit working. I checked the voltages and all seemed fine. I did find one questionable connection that I repaired. I pulled the motor, grounded the motor to the battery and then touched one of the leads to the positive post, nothing. Did the same with the other lead and again nothing. Checked the ground and it was good. Repeated the lead tests with the same results. On a whim I touched one lead (red) to positive and the other (black) to the negative and the motor turns. I assume this indicative of an internal fault. So the question, is the motor shot?

  • For my slideout motors there are tiny circuit breakers located where the controller for the motors is located near the main batteries. These circuit breakers have micro switches located on the side or bottom that will pop out when the motor is over worked. Press the switch in and motors begin to work again.

The circuit breakers look like automotive 12v relays. They are black, about 1 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide with two terminals for the wiring. Feel for the micro switch and push it. It's tough to tell when it's tripped the switch barely pops out from the normal position.
  • As. Stated above the motor is probably OK. The only thing else to check is the torque. You may want to look up the specs on how many inch pounds of torque it should have and check that, but its probably fine.
  • The slide motor has two wires, whatever colour they used (mine has red and white) You put one wire on the battery neg post and the other wire on the pos post and that runs the motor.

Reverse the wires on the posts and the motor turns the other way.

The slide- out rocker switch works by reversing the pos and neg connections inside the switch for IN and OUT.

Ok I don't know what you mean by 'grounding the motor' (by its chassis?) but it ran when you used the two wires like it should. That's good because those motors like an 18 to 1 cost about $550.
