By leaving it open is there enough water per flush to wash the solids all the way to the connection in the ground?? I wouldn't think so. But I always dry camp but I know I put lots of water in the black tank before use. 5/8 gal.

In my 2 tank MH the bathroom sink and toilet are plumbed to the black tank and the shower and kitchen sink are plumbed to the grey tank.

By the above definitions, the act of taking a shower and washing "down below" would classify my grey tank as a black tank. :E

I'm a retired Navy Submariner. We viewed a "navy shower" as a luxury. :B

I wish my RV was plumbed with the sink water going to the black tank.

I just realized, after reading the recent posts, that our black tank isn't filling as fast as it did before installing the Oxygenics shower head with a good flow control valve. Maybe filling the black tank faster isn't such a good idea anymore.

If you are basing this on the factory tank monitor - you have no idea how much is in the tanks. Many of us just ignore the monitor due to its inaccuracy.

If you have access to the plumbing between the kitchen sink and gray tank it is not a difficult job. The easiest way is to run the sink drain to the gray vent pipe or shower drain. It all depends on the plumbing layout. I was able to re-plumb the lav sink in my Jayco from the black tank wet vent to the gray tank wet vent by running a new piece of 1.5" ABS pipe and flexible pvc fittings.

Maybe. We cook two meals a day average in the tt and coffee at least twice a day. I wipe all the dishes out with paper towels or a sponge into the trashcan before washing them, which saves a lot of water. I also give them a "navy shower" rather than leaving the water running.

Interesting. It just occurred to me that your perspective on this issue (kitchen sink connected to the black tank) would most likely be swayed by how much you use your kitchen sink and shower.

We (two of us) tend to cook two good meals a day and use the kitchen sink to clean up afterwards. My toy hauler has a 26 gal. black tank and a 38 gallon grey tank. After two days, our black tank was about 2/3 full, the grey tank about 1/3 full. To balance things out, I guess we may need to put a higher priority on taking showers vs. eating, cleaning the dishes and . . . :)
