LED TV, Safe Going Down Road?

Just got a 32" Samsung flat screen TV. Mounted it on wall w/$20 bracket from Walmart. It has a locking lever and seems secure. Will this ride going down the road? Or should I constrain it some way? Thought of using two bungee cords across the screen, but would probably would end up scoring the screen with the nylon of the bungee cords, right? Put a pillow across the screen, then bungees?

Any help?

I have a Video Secu mount I ordered from Amazon. The mount itself is very solid but no travel lock against swinging around on the road. I use a small size short length bungee cord. It's mounted to the solid part of an overhead cabinet with 1/4" through bolts. Again, very solid, and the mount was no more than $30.

My "Big" TV is mounted with the very same screws and brackets that held the CRT it replaced.. It's just about 100 pounds lighter so it's very secure.

My two smaller TV's. One is swing arm mounted and I've had screws come loose and drop it on the bed (no damage, I mean if it falls it bounces like a kid on a matress.. On a the matress) I now secure it with crossed bungee cords when moving

The other smaller "moves around a lot" is .. in the laundry basket when moving.

    That protects everything.

I've had some well attached stuff fail when I hit a speed bump or three.
  • Mor-ryde makes really nice tv mounts for RV's, they are expensive but have a nice travel lock and are heavy duty. Night and day difference to the cheapies IMO
  • I used a hook in the wall and used a Velcro loop to secure the bracket arm.
  • I would try to secure it as I just hate to have any movement of anything that is not supposed to move as one is bouncing down our roads.
  • Don't rely on just the lever. I had the TV in the bedroom come completely off while we were traveling. Luckily it fell on the tall laundry tub I had under it and it didn't get damaged. Only cracked the laundry tub lid.

Or If continuing to use I would check it often.
  • I have a hook above and below and put a bungie across to keep it pulled to the wall.

    Five years and no issues.
  • It should ride mounted just fine. But yes, you do want to keep it from moving, or swinging. You want to keep it pushed back as close the mount as possible. Depending how and where it's mounted, you could try spring loaded bars across the front of the television, or bungies, or pretty much anything. You are right, whatever you use, you don't want it to rub the surface of the television.

I purchased the type of mount (flat bar style) that simply hooks on and can be lifted off. We still lay our televisions across our bed, face down, when traveling. With the lift-off type mounts, we can also take either television outside whenever we want to, and makes it very easy to bring them in the house in the winter.
