Leveling jack will not stay up...

Good morning, I searched the forum but could not find anything.

I have a 2009 Coachmen Freedom Vision with Power Gear leveling system. This is my first coach with a leveling system.

Everything works ok but one of the jacks will extend after setting a short time. I parked it a week ago and made sure they were retracted, come back and the fron pass side has extended about 3 inches. Still a long way from the ground but this doesn't seem right. Other three look fine.

Is this something I should be concerned with?

Thanks for any input.
Nick
  • I have found the user operating manual for my system. I have a touch pad # 140-1226 and control box #140-1229. This doesn't show anything on parts or service unfortunately.

Does anyone have a write up on how to change them? Also, can this be done without fluid loss? I was going to try and move the suspect solenoid and see if the problem moved with it.
  • You have Power UP and Power Down. The solenoid for that jack is leaking internally if no visible leaks. Go to LCI.corp and find your manual for the Powergear jacks you have. Doug
  • Ok, looking at the jack now. There is a top and a bottom hydraulic line running to it. Looking at the pump, I do not see any leaks. The fluid level seems low to me. Shouldn't it be near the bottom of the fill neck with all jacks retraced? If it is low, would that cause it to drop?

Sorry for all the questions, this is all new to me. And no manual with the coach.

Yes, Hydrolic. I will check to see how many lines are running to each jack. It does not have external springs on them.

I am sure that it was completely retracted and I noticed it about 2 weeks ago and retracted them. Went back yesterday and is is down about 3 inches again.

If a solenoid is leaking, wouldn't it also drop when on the jacks? Meaning when leveled it would also retract to some degree?

I will bet it is NOT fully retracted, which can mean you have overfilled the Tank reservoir.

I'll be at the RV tomorrow and will double check. I just bought it and would have thought the dealer to check that. Thanks for the ideas.

Yes, if the solenoid was leaking. But, I doubt the jack is coming down. I will bet it is NOT fully retracted, which can mean you have overfilled the Tank reservoir. The excess fluid causes the jack to not fully retract because it has no where to go. Because the tank is overfull the Jack down light will also go OFF. Doug

  • You do NOT state is Hydraulic or Electric. BUT, since it comes Down, I will bet it is Hydraulic. Most PG Hyd jacks have springs that pull them up. One thing novices do not realize is that some PG hyd jacks have INTERNAL springs and you cannot see the springs. IF you have ONLY 1 hose going to each jack, you have spring retraction. If you have 2 or 3 hoses going to each jack, you jave HYD UP retraction. If spring retraction the jack should/cannot extend by sitting since the spring holds it retracted. It takes hyd pressure to extend. Are you POSITIVE that jack has fully retracted when you have retracted? If pressure up and down, it takes Hyd pressure to keep the jacks retracted. That means that 1 jack the solenoid at the pump is seeping internally and when the pressure drops that jack comes down. It cannot really go any further without Pump pressure. Doug
  • "Is this something I should be concerned with?"

Yes, very concerned. Strap it up until repaired.
