Hi Itinerant1,
I rarely use the generator for battery charging. I'd prefer massive solar. The one time I did so was an experiment.
I equipped the Yamaha with a remote start kit, so now for heavy long term loads I start the generator, and stop it as soon as I've finished. I just got the genny back in place on July 15, 2017. (the previous one grew wings.) Since then, I've used less than 20 hours.
I thought the 2k generators were limited to 13.3 amps continuous? You will not get 125 amps via a Magnum with the input set to 13, and not doing so may mean having to stop the generator to reset it.Itinerant1 wrote:
Like pianotuna if a quick holdover boost is needed the the magnum 3012 can dump 125a into the bank in an hour useing the 2000w generator but that's only if it's rainy/ heavy overcast for 2 days straight.
I hate running the generator but the weather forcast was for 2 more days of rain/ heavy overcast after 2 days of that weather already so it was either run it that day or the next.
The display to the right show the batteries volts (top line), amps being made or used (middle line) and batteries capacity (bottom line) which shows percentage each % equals 5ah this is a 500ah bank.
At 5pm I connected my Honda eu2000i (2000 watt generator) to the 5th wheel and started charging which can be seen by the middle line on the display 100 amps looking at the controller it shows 125 amps coming from the charger the difference of 5a which is being used in the 5th wheel. The bottom line showing 51% (255ah).
At 5:45p it's charging at 95a I had the tv on. The batteries now at 68% (340 ah). When I shut the generator off at 7pm (2 hours of charging) the batteries where at 92% (460ah)
