I'd really like a single 100 amp unit that didn't cost nearly $300. Not saying those units should be cheaper, just that I wish I could justify spending more on one. For now, I think two of the Mega 36A units will do. Besides it allows me to tinker.
Mena, How many amps do you require? - landyacht318ExplorerI've got a few of those bookmarked already. Thanks. Kinda pricey for what it is. A kill a watt is just a few bucks more and can count current over time.
I think I'd just sacrifice the insulation on an older extension cord to be able to clamp my meter over just one wire. I really don't have any other use for such a device, at this point. - jrnymn7ExplorerKen White wrote:

BFL and I got into this issue on a thread, regarding various powermax units, and I'm now thinking the MAX input current rating is actually based on 108v line voltage, just in case line voltage does drop.
1000w / 120v = 8.33a
1000w / 108v = 9.26a
On a 1500w rating ( /.87, /.95):
1815w / 108v = 17.12 - jrnymn7Explorer

LY, google or even search on Amazon for "AC line splitter". It is a "figure eight" shaped gizmo that splits the 2 AC wires apart for current measuring.
splitter
I learned about it here an older post.

I just saw a video yesterday,on youtube, where the guy uses one of those... pretty cool. - jrnymn7Explorer

Ah I see. The high draw is at the lower voltages. No pot twiddling for me either! Well, that's out then. Back to the MegaWatt's.

I think Randy's asking $275 for the Powermax 100A. There's no stages, you are the stages. :)ken white wrote:
That's true. I would only be using the low 15V range at most (it would be in the high 14's for charging) so I should be under it's max draw.
Don't operate it at its maximum output current and it will work fine.
It may even work at or very near maximum output current since its specifications are so close to 15 amps...
Unless you are going to be pot twiddling through out the whole bulk stage, this is not going to work. The meanwell advantage is it will do maximum output until battery voltage rises to near the voltage set by the pot. My 500 watt supply will do near 600 watts until battery voltage gets up near 14.7. You would have to keep the pot dial within a few tenths to keep it from maxing out on a large depleted bank. Too much work.. I wish it were easier for me to get my clamp on meter over a single ac line to check what it pulls when putting out 590 watts. See if it the same as the spec sheet.
