Mega Watt only 15.34V?

Ok, I finally got my batteries, (4, Crown 235's) hooked up and pulled my MegaWatt supply out to top charge and as I remember top charge voltage was to be 15.5vdc. Well my MegaWatt tops at 15.34 to 15.35. Is this going to do it? Do I just give it more time?

  • Personally, I wouldn't use the mega watt for finish charging. Not that it's not a great little unit, apparently, but it is, after all rated at 13.8v (a conservative rating obviously).

Like mena661 said, the mean wells go higher; up to 16.5-18v, if I recall. From what I've learned on this forum recently, you need something with high voltage, low amps for finishing. And seeing as high voltages come relatively cheap compared to high amps, there are much better alternatives to the mega watt, for finishing and eq'ing, IMO.

Not that my choice is the best, but I went with a variable adjustable unit; not cheap, but very versatile... and it satisfies my tendencies towards being a bit of a control freak :).

That said, the mega watt makes for a great boost/abs charger, provided the 30-36 amps are sufficient.
  • Whats w/ all these contraptions to get a lousy 15 volts ?? Why not just get a shumacher smart charger that puts out 16.3 finishing voltage,.....??
  • Mine tops out there as well but I don't need it to go any higher in my case. Some of the Mean Well's go higher though.

EDIT: You could purchase a DC to DC converter to place on the output to get to those higher voltages.
