Pianotuna is right, inverter MW draws less - all the time - when on lower setting.
Yes, the OP existing MW doesn't draw "less" during the magnetron duty cycle, but on low settings this cycle is under 20 seconds. So it cycles 20 sec On, 20 sec off, or 15 sec On, 25 sec off. Not 2.5 minutes On, 2.5 minutes off.
It still seems easier to use the propane stove.
