Mirror Mirror On The Windshield...

Toad issue...
The car has side mirrors. But city driving Mexicans will ignore you in the right lane and go onto the sidewalk in order to beat you to the light.

I can see somewhat out of the rear side mirrors if I tweak the mirror or my neck. At age 70, either is a poor choice...

Two options the 1st being a license plate camera the second mounting a wide angle mirror over the existing windshield mirror.

Suggestions appreciated...

  • Good on you, niner!

Gotta be better than the chrapy factory mirror that's starting to age spot. Will order on the 1st. This is the kind of stuff I have to do now not when I return to Michoacan. (¡Lo siento mucho pero no tenemos. Que lastima!)

They make both, Many auto stores have them.. Your choice. Best suggestion may not be so good soon but it's get out of Mexico
  • Drivers driving on the sidewalk! Are you sure you aren't in Italy?
  • "bubble" mirror on the side mirror...or front fender, if you can mount one there. (I'm talking about the round convex mirrors used by truckers.)

The wide interior mirrors, such as race car drivers use, are effective though they take some getting used to. I suppose their effectiveness may be somewhat less on many modern cars that just plain don't have windows to speak of, except possibly for a picture window in the middle of the roof.

If it's mainly vehicles approaching from the back you're concerned with, and you have a more or less vertical rear window, the stick-on wide angle lenses are inexpensive and effective. If the window is slanted, they're much less useful.
  • Both will give you a view, but will be smaller than your normal mirror. Another cheap option is to buy another inside mirror and mount it above or below the current inside mirror. Aim one out the back glass, and aim the second one to the passenger side as needed.

The advantage to having two inside rear view mirrors is that you only have to look in one general area to see both views.

  • license plate cameras generally suck. mine kept getting dirty had low resolution, etc. a better rear vision camera would be better, mine is mounted high on the rear window.
