There really is no need to use a heating element to discharge a battery unless you are making a DIY load tester. There are other resistive loads that will work better, like lights. Why do you need to discharge the battery?
I don't want to discharge the battery. I want to test the charger and the battery is currently fully charged. What do you recommend I do?
Chassis battery, turn on the headlights for 15 minutes.
House battery, use the inverter, turn on lights, start fans. I have two simple fans that draw 4 amps each.
Depending if this "charger" is hard wired into a vehicle or freestanding---Alternatives--Find another discharged battery. Buy a big spotlight and use it for a draw. Wait for charged battery to discharge.
