rjxj, yes, I have been doing 12v/24v for quite a few years but not at the level of you guys here! And I have never had a non-homebrew RV, so I don't know what are the 'normal' ways of doing things.
By homebrew I guess I mainly mean using stuff like plastic and copper bars to create a buss bar/ fuse board vs buying finished products.
I understood that :). And by homebrew rv, I meant that I started with a stock van.
So the ice machine is 24 volts and the freezer is 120 with inverter and the van is 12 volt. How much of the time are you plugged in?
Yes. Lately, i am plugged in most of the time. That's bec of the freezer. But I am working towards a system that will let me stay off grid longer and still have the freezer.
It stays frozen 3-4 days with no electric. The new battery bank should extend that to a week, maybe more. A lot more if I drive a lot and recharge :). Solar will be next year, maybe.
