Need to replace/upgrade? bedroom slide switch...

I have a 2001 rig and it has a Barker switch, part #18768, in the bedroom to bring the bedroom slide in and out. You press to bring it in, press to stop, press to move out, press to stop -- then the cycle repeats....I'm not able to find another like it and thought I remembered a discussion about this kind of switch before -- that some of you replaced them with a different type of switch (that would be nice). It has three wires in back. Green, yellow and white. One of the wires goes to the light. It's just a little square button with a light above it, set into a face plate with a little circuit board behind. I'd prefer to replace it with something else but would settle for another like it. Have checked eBay/Amazon and the archives here and can't find those conversation.

Thanks much!
  • Barker has an updated control module and switch assbly. Doug

  • Sounds like you have one of these. The item shown as #2, switch pulses the smart box that actually operates the slide. There could be issues inside of the black box or a wire is loose.

Does this convert the push type button to a rocker?

Yes, the original was a hazard, so they redesigned to prevent operation unless you HOLD the button. Back in the mid 2000's, due to a injury caused by a slide room that extended without holding a button (not barker) all the OEM and slide makers redesigned the slide controls to where you MUST hold a button to make the slide continue operation. No recall, they just had the controls redesigned. Doug
  • Thanks for the info! Looks like they only sell the controller and the switch together. I called and she confirmed. But I did a little research. If you go here...

and look up the controller I have now, 23267...it says to see part 27666, which is the part they sell that goes with the new switch, which suggests that the new switch and the old controller are perhaps the same thing. It's possible that if I buy just the switch which you can find sold separately here...(Barker part #29536)

That it will work with the old controller. I'm going to give it a try and let you know. They both say 15 - 45 amps on them. All the labels on the inputs are the same. Yeah...I called Camping World and ran it by them. They think my old controller will work with the new switch. I will let you know.

    Thanks again for your help!
  • Ok, I called this place in Oregon that offers the switch and controller and they said the new switch does *not* work with the old controller. The new controller supports toggling and the old one doesn't. He said you can crank it by hand but that could eventually burn out the controller (which is useless anyway as long as the switch is useless) but that hand cranking it slowly rather than quickly will be safer. I think I'll hand crank for now and let you know if I have any problems with that. I only move a few times a year anyway.

He also said that if it goes in and not out that it sounds like the switch, but again, both need to be replaced if you have the old controller.
  • Looks like the two options for this upgrade are pdxrv.com and R & K Products.

    New controller number is 27666
    New switch number is 29536

For what it's worth pdxrv.com answered the phone and helped me sort this out. R&K sent me to voicemail.

The best prices, by about $20 are at:
