New class a dash ac only moderate cooling

new update.. seems the heater is doing the same sort of thing. Like it blows warm air, but it's luke warm. I turn the nob all the way to hot as it can get but it doesn't get really hot.. Just warm.

Leads me to believe it's not a freon issue. I can't even tell if the compressor is coming on.

So I got a thermometer and tried it out. The air coming out of the dash was only 2 degrees cooler than the outside air!!!

if that actually. It was close enough that it might just be blowing the outside air. Outside just happens to be 76 the air was just a touch under 75.


Soooo.. Seems my dash AC is not working at all :(

brand new freaking rig.. sort of seriously angers me that a 2 week old MH I need to take to the shop for something so basic. Hopefully this is not a sign

Ours can only keep an already cool coach cool. It does work good without the roof airs in lower temps but I don't remember how low it was. We just got ours last July so I don't have too many less than 100 F temps experience to go from. From what I've read here, the dash A/C seems to be adequate for some and unacceptable for others.

Too large of a space for the dash air to cool. Any and all air conditioners should put out air around 20 degrees cooler then the air going into the unit. Home or auto is the same. Compare the temperature at the intake and exhaust, if 20 degree difference, it is working correctly.

Be sure to set it for max cool or recirculate. Normal cool brings in hot outside air. Max or recirculate takes air from the inside of the vehicle and will cool better because it has cooler intake air.

At 85 degrees the dash A/C should keep the driver and passenger comfy. I suspect that you are getting heat from heater core. I suggest that your dealer can fix that but you might want to put a clamp on the hot water supply to the heater box.

For perspective. I have a 42 foot coach with a 19K BTU A/C in the dash and a 13.5 K BTU over the road evaporator in the bedroom. At 85 and humid the front is comfortable with just the dash unit on. It will blow a lot of air at 47 degrees.

If it gets much warmer we'll turn on the bedroom evap. The wife complains that is too cold even when ambient is 100. Theses things really do work when designed, manufactured and maintained properly.

A few years ago I went on a trip as a passenger in a brand-new Ford maxi-van. It had TWO air conditioners, more than a thousand dollars in options. The second air was for the rear seating. As a guess I believe not even that monster would stand a chance in a larger class A.

I would rather that be my news than something already being wrong with my brand new rig =)

I am going to check the temperatures coming out of the vents. If it's only 20-25 degrees cooler than outside temps I can understand it being just "cool"

seeing as I live in south texas where we didn't even break freezing this Winter and spring is basically summer.
