New GPS App for IPHONE and Android

I just downloaded the GPS CoPilot app for my IPhone. In my playing with it I see that it has a preference in the setup to choose RV routing that allows you to input height restrictions. The basic app is free with a upgraded version for $9.99. I also understand its available for the Droid community too!
  • Heck,I just use Google maps on my Galaxy S-5 and have never had a problem with route finding and it's never steered me wrong.
I also keep a paper highway map handy for a quick area reference.

I think Copilot isn't really "new". Probably a few years old. One problem with their free version is that while it allows trip pre-planning, it automatically erases the entire existing route with all the waypoints when you start navigating to some new place. Don't know if this is so with their paid version.

Sometimes roads built in the last 3-4 years are not on the map at all, but this is to be expected with Open Street database.

I still like free Copilot better than NavFree (which is also free, obviously).

These are the best two free offline navigators that I know of.
  • We have used the free version of Copilot on my wife's iPad for a several years as a secondary navigation aid. We have a Garmin as our primary but Copilot lets my wife check our routes and make suggestions of side trip or alternate routes. She use to do this with paper maps but spent all her time finding where we were on the map, now the iPad does that part for her.
  • Waze is also a good one for traffic hazards and knowing where the cops are hiding out along the hwy.

They work offline by using maps downloaded to your device, they do take over 2 GB of space each.

These 2 are my hands down favourites also.
I do a lot of mapping on OpenStreetMaps, so I
Generally use Pocket Earth to look at areas, and
Copilot for routing. I forget the benefit of buying the paid
Version, but when I was looking into it I decided to buy it.

  • I've been using it for a couple months and love it. Didn't subscribe to the upgraded version. Haven't really researched it to see what the upgraded version has. I know it has live traffic but that's not something we would use.
