new stereo

Boy oh boy. I hate to tell you this but there is no park wire on the new unit. The speaker wiring in this thing was so screwed up. Wires changing colors etc. At the oem stereo and at the speakers themselves so must have been oem work. Finally took my time today and traced the wires and hooked it right up & it works as intended.It looked as if a 4yr old had wired it. THANKS for all the suggestions and taking time to try to help. Wish I knew how to post pics on here you would have had a good laugh.

If it was a factory job omg. I have found other shoddy oem things in this Keystone. I thought I had fixed them all but you never know. I suppose they just use what's at hand. Poor quality @ best. I would hope the newer ones are better quality but who knows.

Thanks the only answer that makes sense. No video just a simple automotive stereo. and the wall unit was only using the right side speakers going to the switch for different areas of the trailer. Without the Video I would think it has no park wire. Wiring diagram is the same as the unit I removed. The only diff is the orig was only using right side going to the selector switch that routes the sound to bedroom, living room, bedroom+living room, & outside. I just installed the same unit in my F350 & my Toyota Corolla with no issues. It's not rocket science but I am having issues with the trailer.

The wall unit has an A & B switch but B is dead and A works because the unit is only using 1 side to go to the selector switch.

I'm assumming, your original wall unit is/was a Linear brand, and, your A-B-C switch is not built into the unit.

Looking at some of the wiring diagrams for Linear wall units, you are correct in that one side (positive) is switched. The negative speaker wires, are not location specific. IE: any negative wire, should work for any speaker.

Do an internet search for "Linear in wall AM/FM/DVD". Several sites will come up. Some have links to manuals, with wire diagrams.

I think your confusion on the parking brake wire issue, is, the Sony unit may have it because it was designed for automotive (not RV) use. It's got nothing to do with your speaker issue. If that Sony unit has DVD capability, it may be a problem with video.

Pictures and make/model numbers would help a lot.

IE; The A-B-C switch. Is it not built in to the wall unit? What does it look like?

the fix is attaching the parking brake wire off the headunit to ground. its not a real big deal

You can reread the posts but I'll try to explain it again. Some head units have a defeat built into the unit. Video playback is defeated unless the head unit gets a signal that the vehicle is in Park. That defeating can be bypassed by installing a jumper or a couple of jumpers into the connection on the back of the head unit. This "tricks" the head unit into thinking that a vehicle is in Park and video playback is initiated. It has nothing to do with your tow vehicle and is all about the head unit. It doesn't matter that you're installing it in a trailer, the head unit still needs to be sent that signal through the connections to operate video playback.

If you are just playing the radio, it should operate as typical but a DVD won't play.

Since you are unaware of this functionality, there may be other things about installing a head unit in a trailer that you also don't understand. Those could be how to get the signal to your speakers so that you can listen to them and also how to make a DVD play to feed your screen.

it is a 5th wheel. It has no park. with the tow vehicle unhooked what would the stereo interfere with? I am getting confused how a stereo in a trailer would interfere with the tow vehicle.

Sometimes, it doesn't matter what you're installing the headunit IN because there is a built-in defeat when the vehicle is not in park. The intention is to disable any video function playback to the monitor so that viewing is not happening when driving.

If you don't think posting the model # is important, that's OK with me, carry on.

I thought you were talking about at least 4 wires. Now, it appears you're talking about only two wires. What a mess. I guess some (all?) manufacturers will go to any length to save 12 cents and screw the consumer.
