Why be so stingy?
Color coding is not a bad idea at all, in fact, it may be the CHEAPEST "insurance" you can get if you have a mix of Diesel and gas engines to deal with.
I have a Diesel tractor, gas push mower, gas generator, gas log splitter, gas vehicles..
Tossing gasoline into the Diesel tractor could cost well over $4K to repair..
Tossing Diesel into any of those gas engines while not as expensive of a mistake as gas into a Diesel can be a real headache to drain the tank, clean the carb or in the case of modern vehicles drain and clean the fuel system then have to replace cat converters and O2 sensors and anything else you could think of that gets poisoned from the fuel mixup..
That IS why I spent the $6 for a 5 gallon YELLOW colored portable fuel jug for my Diesel tractor.
My Dad did one of those stupid tricks of using a RED Gas can for Diesel and didn't bother to label or mark it.. He filled his gas engine tractor tank with Diesel because he FORGOT that the can had DIESEL IN IT, then couldn't figure out why it would not start the next time..
He often used Diesel or Kero to clean gunked up oily engine parts..
Yes, a gas engine can run Diesel but only if it is HOT, cold, not so much.. At least he wasn't bothered with bugs while it fogged up the neighborhood..
Yeah, I had to fix it when he couldn't get it started the next time so I do speak from experience..
