No display on new Norcold fridge.

I just installed a brand new Norcold 841 refrigerator. I hooked up everything exactly as the manual said (the same as the old fridge). The 120 volt is plugged in. My outlet is reading 115V. The propane is hooked up and turned on. The 12V wires are hooked up exactly as the circuit board indicates they should be. I tested the 12V prior to hook up and showed 12.26V. The manual says I just need to turn the fridge on from the inside after the hook ups. I pushed the power button on the inside and nothing. I checked the one fuse in the black panel behind the fridge and it is good. I know that I have good power, both AC and DC to the fridge. The only discrepancy (sp) I find is that the circuit board, and a sticker on it, indicate 12V positive and negative. However the manual shows them as the opposite. I tend to believe the circuit panel itself but what do you guys think? I'm desperate to figure this out because we are supposed to leave for vacation. I tried holding the power button, mode button, re-checked all connections and voltages. Is there a switch or reset I haven't found? Also, the fridge light doesn't work. I suspect something in the circuit board??? Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to provide adequate info.

I thought about switching the wires but I checked things again and found that the board is labeled correctly (continuity from the chassis to the negative post). I tried calling Norcold but they are closed now (Eastern time). I'm really frustrated because we were getting ready for a great vacation. I'm just hoping there is a reset or some other "trick" to get it working. Thanks for your reply.

Mandalay Parr is one of the more knowledgeable people on this forum. I would suggest taking a picture as requested and e-mail it to him. Might have the answer you need and avoid having to call the NoCold people tomorrow.:C

  • 1. Norcold has used about 4 different style Circuit Boards on your Model over the years.
    2. You need to look at the only 2 open spade connections on the board for the 12 volt pos and neg. The POS will usually state on the board 12vdc. The neg will state gnd1 or just gnd.
    3. You CANNOT use where the old refer had the Connections as your new refer control board is different.
    4. Your stated 12 volt voltage is NOT correct if you are plugged into shore power. You stated 12.26 volts. THAT is not even good voltage on a fully charged battery. IF you are plugged into shore power, your line voltage should be well over 13.2 volts from the power converter. THIS voltage you stated is NOT your problem as the refer will come on down to 11.1 volts, but your voltage should be at least over 13.2 if plugged into shore power. You may have a Converter problem also.
    5. Your model "may" have the hi limit switch on the burner flue casing. You will see 2 red wires on the round metal burner case on a limit switch. THAT usually has a center reset button. IF that is tripped, you may not have voltage to the refer, but usually if it trips the system will throw a NO CO code and the panel will still come on as well as the Interior light.
    6. I believe your problem is you do NOT have the pos and neg on the correct spades on the control board. Doug
  • Sadly it's not unusual to have silk screening mistakes on CB's. By the time a manufacturer catches them it's too lat to do anything about it and since the board is functional, they usually just leave it.

  • Hold your breath.....and try switching the polarity of the 12volts. I don't know but would suspect they have a blocking diode to prevent smoke from reverse polarity.

    What to loose...doesn't work now.

    Did you call Norcold?

Did they supply a schematic of the board?

Take a picture and email to me.
