No TV Signal

I have narrowed the problem down to the coax cable between the TV and where the the antenna connects to the roof. I have disconnected the cable to the antenna at the roof and I am trying to pull the cable out from the top. Anyone try to repair the coax connection on the roof before? What is the secret. Is the cable just held in place with silicone caulk?

Thanks in advance. Russ

From the TV teh cable runs to either your wall plate or Multi switch, not to the roof.. From the switch it runs TO THE ROOF, no farther, there is a connector in the roof (Which I had to replace on mine) and from there the cable runs to the antenna.
  • Problem fixed. Someone had the satellite and
TV 2 connections reversed. All is good. Good strong signal and I get all the channels that I get on my home TV.

Now on to figure out why the Fisher DCS-TS765 Compact Home Theater System sound keeps cutting in an out.

    Thanks all,

  • Russ,

Many time the coax from the antenna is only a short section (~4 ft.) that's connected with a F connector and feed through to the main coax just inside the roof.

Most are just held there with Dicor sealer. I have found the coax tied in a loose knot in the ceiling. Remove the crank handle and direction plate. You should be able to get to the F connector and feed through.

Factory F connectors are usually cheapo screw ons that will work great if they are installed correctly but usually aren't.

I recently found a neighbors problem where the antenna input and cable input were swapped under the entertainment center cabinetry. It hadn't worked since he bought the '06 model, so he had always just hooked up the satellite dish. Many of the F connectors were badly installed.

Probaby is correct. If a TV SPLITTER Transformer is being used it will read a short...

Normally the WALL PLATE has the cable TV coming in and it is sent to the main TV connector on the front of the wall plate and the bedroom TV jack. Then when you push in the small button on the wall plate this inhibits the signal coming in from the cable TV connections and connects the OTA antenna to the main TV connection and the bedroom connection. It also send up +12VDC only up to the BATWING wing antenna to power up the boost amplifier. It does not send +12VDC to your main TV or bedroom connection...

The antenna wall plate is just a smart switcher unit. There is no boost amplifier inside it... Having said that most everybody calls this the Booster panel haha

When I am at home working on it I always use a 50-foot extension cable from my house cable TV and run that out to the trailer. Then I can try all of the combinations to get them working correctly...

Checking for ohms with TV cables not a good working effort... Need to check them with TV signals instead. Sounds likes it working ok since you said you had fed TV signals to both TV's already...

  • Update: Problem maybe the antenna wall plate. I disconnected the antenna input and connected directly to the TV. Got a good signal and many stations. Still a work in progress and I will check to see if I am getting power to the antenna.

With the antenna reconnected to the wall plate and no other connections except power, I read a direct short between the center and outer shell of the female RF connector for TV1 and TV2. Is this normal?

    Thanks,
    Russ
  • One other possibility that I think is pretty rare but it just happened to me. Found every time I turned on a particular fluorescent ceiling light, the TV would loose the over air signal. About drove me nuts. I found the problem totally by accident. With some research learned that electro magnetic interference could cause the problem and could be caused by the wiring, the tubes, or the ballast. Was going to change tubes and found a deteriorating and over heated ballast.

Just to be sure you have done everything right - have to push the button on the Antenna WALL PLATE and select ANTENNA from your HDTV menu before the OTA ANtenna is selected to use... Then you have to point the OTA Antenna to a local Tower and scan in the digital HDTV signals into your TV memory. Now you can use your HDTV...

When you had the RG Cable ldisconnected at the antenna that would have been a good time to use a multimeter and see if you read 12VDC coming from the trailer. That is what powers up the BAT WING booster amplifier which is turned on by pushng the button on the Antenna Wall Plate..

Cables can go bad as the RG cable gets moved everytime you raise the BATWING...

I would never do all of that not knowing for sure its bad... Could of unhooked it and hooked up a 25-foot RG CABLE and run out the window to check first...

Now you are committed to replacing something that may not needed to be replaced...

i.e. If you don't have 12VDC coming from the RG cable from the trailer side then the antenna won't work for you...

  • You could easily have a staple through the cable. Factory connector crimps are often poor / bad.
