Bayite DC 6.5V-100V Digital ammeter voltmeterAmazon suggested this for me and I'm thinking for $20 I might just give it a try. Has very good reviews too.

I see it has two versions, 0-20A and 0-100A. The 0-20 would prob be more accurate in that range, but 0-100 would be more useful I think.

Ok, but I would go for the 100 amp version.

I have one and it worked well. I just replaced it with a Trimetric because I wanted more features and accuracy when I add solar.

These showed up on here a couple weeks back. Looks interesting for sure... I'm not real keen with the DC SHUNT idea especially if used in the POSITIVE SIDE of the batteries. To prone with HOT wires routed everwhere...I see the AC VERSION uses the HALL EFFECT coil method - Now this I would love to see being used on the DC side..I too would want the 100A version... My three battery bank likes to draw around 53AMP DC when first being charged... I currently have a +/- 70A Hall Effect meter installed in the line feeding my batteries and this is great as it shows the load current and the charge current with a + or - minus symbol. Been looking for these to start showing up again...The TRIMETRIC would be a good unit for my install as it supports a settable DC alarm state. I like to monitor my batteries and would like to have an alarm go off when I start seeing around 12.0VDC when running off my batteries. This gives a good idea I am starting to get down close to the 50% charge state on the setup...For $20-$40 sure would be something to play with. The display has all you need to watch on it... Wondering how bright this meter is going to be. I installed a three LED meter panel (two DC Voltmeters and one DC Current meter and it was so bright I had to add ON/OFF switch on it. Lit up my whole trailer at night...Roy Ken

The shunt goes on the negative side of the battery and the display is plenty bright. My only negative comment is the push button on the front and how it works with the display, not real intuitive, but for the money it does a good job. I checked mine for accuracy with a high quality DVM and it was pretty accurate. $16.00 and free shipping with Amazon Prime.

Not a TriMetric, but for $20 might be worth trying out...

50A (others available), says it will do forward & reverse, also shows Ah.

Was concerned about display brightness though.

Look for "Auction includes" in the ad below "Product Description", states that it includes a shunt.

And the 90 amp Chinese "trimetric" for $29. Ebay

I have the 25 amp version, which has worked perfectly for a couple of years now. It is a full battery monitor that detects all current going in and out so it can calculate and display the state of charge accurately all the time. In per cent of full charge or amp-hours.

The thing is, a voltmeter provides a very inaccurate estimate of the per cent of a full charge and that only 8 hours after all charging has stopped. A current meter tells you how much draw there is now but gives no indication of how charged the battery is. Better to get the Chinese battery monitor for $29.

How far from the shunt and case can I put the digital readout?

Decided to order the 100A version. That should cover my 1000W inverter and other DC loads.

But any issue with putting the shunt on the ground line from the batteries to the frame? The batteries are mounted on the tongue in little plastic boxes, and the positive terminal is pretty congested with the fuses. I do want the meter to measure net Ah, from both loads and charge sources. And I do have a separate battery voltage display at the solar controller, so don't need that.
