- wa8yxmExplorer IIIThe Onan's at least the one I have runs very quiet, In fact they are advertised as the quietest Plus they run at a constant speed so although the QUALITy of the sound (Volume, and waveform) may change with load. the actual note does not.
Your brain very quickly tunes it out. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI purchased several Carbon Monoxide alarms then installed Lithium batteries. Now they are in the gen shed still active.
Have a CO alarm in your bedroom and test it regularly and replace the battery yearly. You want the alarm to be mounted at sleeping-body level.
When the power goes out and I know it's temporary, I'll fire up the Harbor Fright 800 watt on the roofed patio but then retreat indoors where there is a CO alarm - eHoeflerExplorer IIWhen I installed my generator, I ran the exhaust to the rear of the coach and use a Gen-Turi to get it above the roof line.
- LantleyNomadThey are very quiet when running. Noise is not an issues.
While sleeping exhaust is an issue. I strongly suggest using Genturi if there are others parked close to you or if you plan to use while sleeping. - gboppExplorerFWIW, I have a 96 Southwind. The Onan 5500 is under the bedroom. It's very quiet when running.
- edatlantaExplorer III have the Onan 5500 under my bedroom and I can't hear it all when the a/c is on. The exhaust is out the bottom of the gen mount area and exits to the left front side of the RV. I do have a Gen-Turi system that I put on when using the generator in cramped areas.
