Hello, New to the forum, and hope some one can help me out.As having an American Rv in the uk. There is very little help available.I have a Damon Daybreak, with the Onan 5000 fitted.Last year the starter motor failed. So we decided to take it out for a major service etc.The problem I have is, the wires disconnected from the generator are.1x multi plug connector easy to plug back in.I also have 5 wires, which were taken out from the generator, which lead into the Rv.Now it is ready to go back in, I cannot find my drawing of were they went.2 I presume are from the breakers, as only 2 on the other side of them. But the others could go anywhere, as there are a few options of places to reconnect them behind the starter panel.Hoping someone can help will try to get some pictures. Many thanks.

In most cases you can find the appropriate Onan Service Manual on-line - it may have detailed installation instructions.

2 hot legs, color red and black ?1 neutral leg color white1 ground leg color greenthat only leaves one possibly unknown wirewhich might be from the auto-start control ?

The standard output wiring will be black (hot), black /yellow stripe (hot) , white (neutral), white (neutral), green (ground) (2 neutrals due to it being a 120 volt model, not 240 volt).A model number is really needed for the final answer though.

Hello, thanks for replies.Model number 5BGEFA26100N.Serial number 1973736415.4.8kw 60hz 40amp 1800 rpm 980ccits where the wires go inside the generator not the rv end.Have took some pictures but struggling to upload to site thanks

his unit is only 40 amp according to the tag. so, should be 20/20.
according to page 41 of the service manual.

I can almost guarantee it is 30/20- simply because this model was meant to power the rig plus a second air conditioner- the output breakers actually have a capacity above the genset itself. The second circuit with only the a/c will have a load of under 15 amps, so the main circuit could carry well over 20 amps, and with only a single a/c running, you would want all 30 amps available on the main line.

I'm not sure about the brown wire though...

as you are colorblind, any chance that 'brown' would be green (it should be)..

that lug bar is all the same, so any connection point should be the same.

the wiring diagram shows all three non-load wires going to the same place.. on mine they are connected to the base plate with a bolt. yours has connectors, but same design/results.

Many thanks, and the 2 white and 1 brown can go on any of the 3 connectors at the bottom. Or does the brown have to go on one specific connector. As the other side has all white wires.

Actually, it will matter, though it shouldn't hurt anything. On the 5kw, I believe one breaker is a 20 amp, the other a 30 amp. The 20 should typically just feed the rear air conditioner, the 30 will feed the rest of the coach. You just want to make sure the whole coach is being fed from the 30.

No, does not matter.

the power leads are connected to the leftmost section of the black top connector (labeled L0), to the circuit breakers (they are already connected in your picture).. the two black wires you have to the 'load' (lights, furnace, water heater), connect to the other side of the circuit breaker. (load is top of the wiring diagram)

all of the other wires connect to the same place, UNDER the big connector. where I boxed on the pic.

Hello, the two black wires. One has a yellow stripe. Does it matter which breaker it goes on. As the two already on the other side are both just black.
I am finding it very hard to make sense of the wiring diagram in the manual. Does not help being colour blind. So staying well clear of electrics most of my life.

That black panel with all of the quick connects- the neutrals and ground hook to the bottom horizontal row (the circuit breakers are hooked to the top, vertical row).
