Onan Gen

Have a Onan marquess gold gen
At gen just above the breaker switch there is a white switch (no toggle just slide)
Was wondering if anyone knows what this slide left to right switch is?
Couldn't find in Manuel.
Also no start from inside switch but starts from outside fine.
Any suggestions?
2001 Pace Arrow Vision

Thanks
  • Hi John,

Here is about the only drawing I have from a Remote Panel-Kit, but does show pin numbers.

I think jferre9570 may have answered some of your questions with his post.

    Good luck on the quest,
    Dave

  • Well I finally got to warm weather, got under my coach today and found connectors that jferre9570 talked about. I check them and move around some and the remote switch worked.
Then it didn't but I now know that this is the problem.
Question can I use automotive electrical connectors (blue or red) to replace / splice the present ones now. Just cut the wire and reconnect?
I think that this will correct my problem.

Thanks for all the positive feed back on this issue.

I'll chime in-yes use any crimp connectors that are the correct size, but, I would first check the connections and then seal them with heat shrink.
  • pkunk,

    Thanks for the input.
I will install new connector and add shrink wrap

  • One other question:
I have a remote start pigtail connection to my generator from fleetwood wiring harness.
It has only 4 wires in connector?
    (run, stop, ground, start wires)
The onan wiring connector 300-4986 has 5 wires?
If I replace with the 5 wire connector from onan I guess it is the hour meter that the fifth wire runs?

    Any comments?

    Thanks

Well I spliced the ground wire and the start wire from the connector at generator.
Now I am stumped it still doesn't want to start?? It did one time before splicing by moving group of 4 wires around while wife it start switch?
I guess I may have to take it in to someone to look at?
Just running out of solutions, only two wires left to connect run & stop but don't think they will change anything?

    Thanks for all your help

  • Well I have checked the connections from body wiring to generator.
Have spliced the start and ground wire in the plug. Also have checked the connection at the Generator and can't seem to get it to start from remote switch? I did start one time while moving the wires. Then I spliced and it hasn't started again. Have a good splice and have tried moving the wires while DW tried starting like before?
    Running out of ideas?
If anyone has another suggestion please forward as I am about to setup an appointment at the RV service center here in Lancaster, Pa.

    Thanks in advance

  • If it worked one time by wiggling wires got to be a connection back up a ways and look at a little bigger picture you may see something when your real close you can only see a little part of what your working on . Have you tested for continuity from one end of wiring harness to the other one at a time you may have to have a long piece of wire tied on one end pull it to the other end then hook your mutimeter up and test for continuity if you can't find it you'll have to take it in
  • Just an update on my generator

Took it to Cummins / Onan Coach Care in Harrisburg, PA.
They found that the wiring on the generator side had a pin hole in the wire casing and that was where some corrosion formed. They fixed it an now it starts from the remote switch like normal.

Thanks for all the input and advise everyone provided.
