Both switches failing suggests the connections at the generator may be the problem. Our generator had butt splices about a foot away from the generator remote plug-in hidden inside the plastic wire loom cover. One of them had corroded and failed, causing similar symptoms. A cut, strip, solder, and shrink wrap of all the wires made for a likely permanent fix.
