PAINTING TT rims??????

I Plastic coated my Jeep wheels no need to shield the tire just put on a heavy coating of 303 spray the rims, after they dry the over spray on the tires will peal off like a bad sunburn.

As a note, whenever I use black on wheels or chassis, I use Rust-O-Leum. Scratch them up good with 200 grit. Use lacquer thinner to wash off. Then Rust-O-Leum red oxide primer which seems to be the best tie coat I have ever used. Dang stuff does not chip or flake off bare metal or base pain.
The top coat is also Rust-O-Leum. Bed paint. Gravel won't chip it, it only dents the paint. Not a gloss finish.

WOW, some good tips and suggestions, i would have never thought of a couple of them. guess i just have to decide plasti or paint. i will check out the cans tomorrow.

I've painted a lot of wheels. Removing the tire makes it a lot easier but taping off or the flashing trick will work, too. Prep is the key. Scuff them up with a 3M pad, clean, prime, and paint. Spray can paint is actually getting a lot better, IMO. The improved nozzles and the paint is better.

Here's one trick I use most of the time with spray cans--I heat some water and pour into a used coffee container or bucket. I immerse the spray can in the hot water for 15 minutes or longer. It tends to deliver a finer spray and a more even pattern.

I have used plastidip on wheels before. It works. Much tougher than you would imagine. I've also sprayed them with automotive paint using hvlp gun. The end result is based on your prep work. One tip is to get some metal flashing from the hardware store, 7-8 feet long, and roll it into the diameter of your wheel, and put it between your tire and rim. Done right it will keep paint from your tires.

IMO Black is a bad choice of colors...Will be very hard to tell if one side has more brake dust than other side. Not that is matters much but an indicator of brakes. Any grease that leaks out of dust cover, won't be able to tell till many miles later. And you do know the first time you torque lug nuts, say good by to your paint job?

Having said that...Krylon paint is my paint of choice. Also last couple years they now have a clear gloss "UV Protection" paint. Product number 2444 or sku# 7 24504244400 How much "UV protection" not sure but I've got 3 years on fridge/freezer vent. And the stove vent I only used the paint, as a test. Three years into it now and beginning to tell the difference, but not much yet.
